The marina Taina: more than a simple marina
By decree n°1515/CM of December 22th 1986, the stretch of water and the plot belonging to the State on which was built the marina Taina are included in the geographical district of the Port Authority of Papeete. To satisfy on the one hand, the growing public’s need of installations for welcoming pleasure boats, and on the other hand to solve the problem of saturation of the existing marinas (private or public), the Port extended the marina. Thus the marina has a higher capacity of welcoming pleasure boats. Development works which began in 1999 and ended in 2005 rose by 60% the capacity for welcoming pleasure boats, that is to say 550 berths available, of which 40 were for bigger pleasure boats. The North berth has pontoons with 166 mooring rings, the South berth with the “T” form porpose 122 mooring rings.
Now, the marina Taina is one of the best international marinas because of the quality of infrastructures and services provided (water, electricity, Internet access, household garbage collection). We also find a service station and a diving centre. 60 dock spaces for boats make possible the exit of boats for maintenance works or for their dry-docking. A car park of 125 parking spaces is at the users of the marina’s disposal. Annexes such as the Harbour Master’s Office or premises can be used by marine companies to provide boat repair services directly on quays. The marina Taina is a real nautical town and user-friendly place, made up of 3 bar-restaurants and a place to walk, not only for yachtsmen staying at the marina but also for population of the island.
We can access the marina by the Taapuna channel on the West side or by the Faa’a-Punaauia channel from the Port of Papeete. The maximum draught is 4 metres.
The marina of Vaiare: yachting in the countryside
