The Port Authority of Papeete is responsible for the management, operation, and development of port infrastructure, in the interest of the territory and serving all stakeholders in the maritime sector. As such, it guarantees the smooth operation of port activities, in compliance with safety, security, and public service continuity regulations.

It supports trade, inter-island maritime transport, and vessel berthing, ensuring the performance of facilities, the quality of services offered, and the balanced organization of port area uses. This mission is carried out within a structured regulatory framework that complies with national and international standards applicable to the maritime sector.

The Port Authority of Papeete also contributes to the economic and logistical development of Tahiti and its five archipelagos, in coordination with institutional stakeholders, economic partners, and users. It integrates environmental, territorial, and operational considerations into its operations, ensuring the port's activity is sustainably managed with responsibility and foresight.

A central player in the Polynesian maritime system, the Autonomous Port of Papeete It performs essential tasks to ensure the continuity of trade and the proper functioning of the territory. In an island and archipelagic environment, where the sea is the main means of transport, the Port organizes, secures and optimizes the flow of goods, passengers and ships at both local and international levels.

Its responsibilities cover all port activities: receiving ships, managing infrastructure and equipment, organizing maritime and land-based operations, and coordinating the various stakeholders involved in the port area. It ensures that safety, security, and operational efficiency meet regulatory requirements and international standards.

The Port also contributes to the economic development of French Polynesia by supporting strategic sectors such as international trade, inter-island transport, cruise ships, fishing, recreational boating, and ship repair. Through its investments, development projects, and adaptability, it anticipates changes in maritime traffic and meets the growing needs of the territory.
