Specialized actors such as the fishing port, the pilot station, customs, stevedoring companies, the biosecurity department, the border police, and the floating dock all play a role around the Port.
This partnership-based organization makes it possible to coordinate operational, control, security, logistical, and service requirements within a single port area. It reflects the diverse skills mobilized daily to support maritime traffic, professionals, and users of the region.

Our partners

S3P

Located between the Papeava River and the Motu Uta bridge, the fishing port is an integral part of the Port of Papeete. Its management is handled by the semi-public company S3P, which is responsible for providing deep-sea fishing professionals with the infrastructure and equipment necessary for their activities.
The site includes two 150-meter quays, one 90-meter quay and eight lines of 90-meter pontoons, allowing it to accommodate most of the local fleet, approximately one hundred ships.
Through its structuring role, the fishing port contributes directly to the functioning of the sector and to the maritime activity of the territory.

Pilot station

The Port of Papeete Pilot Station plays a central role in the safety and smooth operation of ship maneuvers within the port facilities. It intervenes during the critical phases of ship entry, exit, and movement, in close coordination with the port authority, port services, and relevant authorities.

Maritime pilots, highly qualified professionals perfectly familiar with local nautical specificities, bring their expertise to captains to ensure safe and controlled maneuvers, in compliance with safety, security and maritime environmental protection rules.

Through its operations, the pilot station contributes to the smooth functioning of port activities, the continuity of commercial operations, and the reception of the various types of vessels using the port. It is fully integrated into the overall organization of the Port Authority of Papeete, ensuring a level of operational excellence that meets international maritime pilotage standards.

Customs

The presence of the Customs and Indirect Taxes Directorate within the Autonomous Port of Papeete constitutes an essential link in the system for controlling and securing maritime trade. It operates within the framework of the missions entrusted to it by the State, particularly regarding the control of goods, people, and trade flows.

Customs services ensure the application of current regulations, thereby contributing to the security of port operations, the protection of the territory, and the smooth flow of international trade. Their work is carried out in close coordination with other authorities present in the port area and with the relevant economic stakeholders.

Through their role, customs services actively participate in the smooth operation of the port, the security of port calls and compliance with regulatory obligations applicable to maritime trade, within a framework that conforms to national and international standards.

Docking

Stevedoring plays a central role in the operation of the Port of Papeete, ensuring the handling of goods and managing the loading and unloading of ships. It constitutes an essential link in the port logistics chain, serving trade and the supply of the territory.

Stevedoring operators work in compliance with safety and security regulations and applicable port procedures, in coordination with all stakeholders present within the port area. Their actions contribute to smooth port calls, optimized cargo handling times, and the continuity of economic flows.

Through their operational role, stevedoring activities contribute directly to the efficiency of the port and its positioning as a strategic infrastructure for international and inter-island trade in French Polynesia.

Biosecurity Directorate

The Biosecurity Department plays a vital role within the Port of Papeete by ensuring the health and biological protection of the territory. It is involved in controlling the flow of goods, ships, and passengers to prevent the introduction and spread of risks that could affect human, animal, or plant health.

Its missions are carried out within the framework of current regulatory procedures, in close collaboration with other government departments and port stakeholders. The controls performed contribute to securing trade while ensuring that port operations comply with the health and environmental requirements applicable in French Polynesia.

Through its actions, the Biosecurity Directorate fully participates in preserving the biological balance of the territory and ensuring the reliability of port activities, by reconciling health protection, fluidity of exchanges and continuity of economic activities.

Border Police (PAF)

The Border Police operate within the Autonomous Port of Papeete, carrying out their sovereign duties of controlling and monitoring the flow of people. They ensure compliance with the rules relating to the entry, stay, and movement of passengers during international maritime arrivals and departures.

Present during port calls by passenger ships, cruise ships, or special vessels, the Border Police (PAF) carries out the necessary checks in coordination with other government services and port authorities. Its actions contribute to ensuring the security of port facilities and the compliance of operations with national and international requirements.

Through its intervention, the Border Police contributes to the security of trade and the reliability of maritime movements, while supporting the development of port activities within a controlled regulatory framework.

Floating Dock

The floating dock is a major dry-docking and maintenance facility serving the maritime sector in French Polynesia. Located in the Papeete harbor, it contributes to the continuity of operations, the safety of interventions, and the maintenance of vessels, both civilian and institutional, in controlled operational conditions.

Operated within the framework of institutional cooperation, the floating dock accommodates civilian and military vessels, thus contributing to the naval maintenance capabilities of the territory in a secure and supervised technical environment.

Designed to accommodate ships within defined technical limits, the dock can receive units up to 3,800 tonnes, 150 metres in length, 17.5 metres in width, and a maximum draft of around 5.8 metres depending on operating conditions.

These characteristics make it an essential piece of equipment in the port system for the needs of careening, maintenance and repair for the benefit of maritime activities on the scale of French Polynesia and its regional environment, covering a particularly large maritime area, with a reference radius of around 4,500 km.

Within a framework of port coordination, the floating dock is part of a reception and service system developed in conjunction with relevant stakeholders. It contributes to the reliability of technical operations and the overall performance of the port, benefiting maritime activity and the needs of the region.
